Research & Resources

About seventy percent of our faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees in various fields. It is the university policy to continue recruiting quality teacher/researchers to its campus. In addition to the 150 laboratories operated by the departments and graduate institutes, the university is furnished with a resourceful computer centre, computerized language labs and the Analysis and Technology Consulting Center that provides the industries with the help of quality control. The new Incubator Center, established in 2006, assists the local industries in research and development. In the meanwhile, we have been advocating enhancement of the training programs by cooperating with the industries so that the ideal of life-long education may be realized. The university resources are shared with the local community. Our library encompasses nearly 1.7 hectares and has a collection of over 200,000 books, with subscriptions over 1,000 periodicals on various fields of research and digitalized reserves. The nation-wide inter-collegiate library cooperation service makes resources everywhere available at one's fingertip.

NIU takes pride in having some of the best network connections in the country. Wireless networking is readily available throughout the campus. Student dormitories are equipped with state-of-the-art fiber network. NIU is also a local network center for Taiwan Advanced Research ＆ Education Network (Giga POP, TWAREN), providing Yilan area with a stable, high speed and high quality connection to the rest of the world. NIU has now repositioned itself as an institute of higher education and is now marching forward with her energy of youth. With the vigor brought about by our expanding faculty and student body and new equipment and resources, we expect to excel in both teaching and research in the near future.
