Introduction
The Department of Civil Engineering at NIU, founded in 1989, is one of the best in Taiwan. With its excellent faculty and facilities, the department was the first of its kind to offer a BS in civil engineering in eastern Taiwan. In 2003, the department will make history again by becoming the first to offer a graduate program in civil engineering in eastern Taiwan.
The department offers programs of study leading to an AS (associate degree in science), BS, and MS (from 2003). Students are able to obtain broad civil engineering training with concentration in structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulic engineering, construction engineering and management, and geometrics. Currently, the department comprises of approximately 200 AS undergraduates, 250 BS undergraduates, 15 will-be graduate students (2003), 3 staff persons, and 14 faculty members.
