Bluefield State College international students share study abroad experiences

  BLUEFIELD, WV (WVVA) Bluefield State College signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Ilan University, after the signing, international students shared their experiences studying abroad in Bluefield.

  The study abroad students leaving home to study abroad, say the adjustment to the mountain state is tough but easier with others like them around.

  When Kirk Collies isn't on the golf course, he's working in the School of Business.

  He says the affordable education and a chance to play golf allows him to fulfill his dream of living in the United States But Collies says a switching cultures, can certainly complicate things.

  Collies says, "Things like getting a driver's license and getting car insurance is a struggle because us as international students, we have to catch the bus to school."

  Freshman and Bluefield State tennis player, Laura Hernandez, is from Venezuela. She says she's ready for an adventure, and a home she felt safe in.

  Hernandez says, "I wanted to try something different. and also because the political situation in my country."

  Hernandez is following her sisters footsteps in studying abroad and she says everyone is helpful in teaching her the culture.

  Already here a year, Wendy Rudhu says its easier to pass along wisdom gained.

  Rudhu says, "in my country we have a very different culture from her but also not to forget where I come from and to have a balance between the two."
